What these terms mean

Outdoor unit: The condenser/compressor unit that sits outside your home.
Indoor coil: The part inside your air handler or furnace that connects to the outdoor unit. "Upflow" means air blows up through it (typical with a basement furnace); "horizontal" means air blows sideways (typical in an attic or crawlspace setup).
Furnace: The gas furnace paired with this coil, where applicable — some setups use an air handler instead.
Refrigerant: The coolant this system runs on. R-454B and R-32 are the new "A2L" refrigerants replacing R-410A industry-wide — this is what the whole site is about. It matters because line-set reuse, oil compatibility, and leak-detection requirements are all different depending on which one your equipment uses. When this shows "not stated in source," it means the document we pulled this match from didn't list a refrigerant for that row — we don't guess it from the brand.
SEER / SEER2: Efficiency rating — higher number means the system uses less electricity for the same cooling. This is usually the number quoted to you; higher generally costs more upfront but less to run.
EER2: A second efficiency number, measured under hot, high-demand conditions rather than an average day. Matters most if you're in a hot climate.
Region: Federal minimum efficiency rules differ by part of the country (North / Southeast / Southwest). If a system shows a region other than "All" and it doesn't match where you live, that's worth asking your contractor about — it may not be legal to install there.

Capacity (BTU): How much heating/cooling power the system delivers. Needs to be sized to your home — bigger isn't automatically better.
Energy Star: Whether this specific combination qualifies for the EPA's ENERGY STAR certification — can matter for rebates or tax incentives.
